The Crusaders are limping as the season winds down, but the top six-man squad still won Homecoming 57-31 over Weatherford Christian (5-4).
Azle Christian School, already playoff-bound, saw its super quarterback Ky Clark injured early – hamstring – so coach Mike Miles inserted freshman Caleb Crawford in the second half.
The ninth grader promptly threw for two TDs and ran for another pair. Before Clark was removed from the game, he scored a touchdown as did Dalton Rosamond. “Defensively, we had a rough night,” Miles said, noting that standout Crusader Jason Rosamond “is still nursing broken ribs.” Still, he played some.
Stepping up big defensively, the coach recalled, was freshman Josh Archer who picked off two Weatherford passes. Also bolstering the ACS D were veterans Mackenzie Miles, Joel Portillo, Jeremy Steele, and Dalton Rosamond. One regular season game remains, a district affair against Joshua Christian at the Azle Christian gridiron Oct. 30. Then, ACS will host the first playoff game before the semifinals are played, set for Aledo on Saturday, Nov. 14. |
