Azle Police are investigating a complaint that a bus driver from Aledo had improper contact with a 15-year-old Aledo student in Azle Oct. 9.
The incident occurred sometime before or after Aledo High School’s football game against the Hornets at Azle High School.
Police Chief Steve Myers said the girl allegedly got a ride to the game from her regular bus driver, who is also employed by Dallas County Schools, an agency that provides transportation for several area school districts, including Aledo ISD. The 59-year-old bus driver was supposedly hauling band equipment to the game that night. Myers said the girl contacted a friend about an improper advance made towards her by the bus driver.
“It was physical contact – sexual in nature – but not intercourse,” he said. “There were no injuries.” The girl’s friend contacted her father, who then contacted Aledo school officials. Since the incident occurred here, the Azle police department is in charge of the investigation. Myers said that so far, the bus driver has refused to cooperate with police. He said he’s heard that there have been previous advances towards the victim by the bus driver. Myers said he hopes to make an arrest either later this week or early next week. The man will most likely be charged with indecency with a child – a second-degree felony. The bus driver has since been fired by Dallas County Schools, and Aledo ISD has placed a criminal trespass warrant on him to keep him off school grounds. Myers said the girl’s case is sad one – especially when considering she thought the bus driver was someone she could trust. “Children should be allowed to live their lives without something like that,” he said. “That kind of betrayal is disconcerting. |
