The Hoover Elementary Student Council (StuCo) was host to more than 500 5-12 graders from 35 area schools during a recent annual Student Council Fall Leadership Conference at Santo Forte Junior High.
As hosts, the students organized the hospitality room, presented a program on fundraising and arranged for Habitat for Humanity representative, Karen Derrek to speak to the students about projects in Azle and what they can do to help.
Workshops on Energy and Environment, Pride and Patriotism, Teamwork, Communication and Teacher Appreciation were presented by area school Student Council representatives. Hoover StuCo, sponsored by 5th grade teacher Wendy Mulford and sixth grade teacher Maria Pick, currently holds the office of state treasurer. After the conference, they sponsored Hoover’s annual “Just Say No to Drugs Week” consisting of Nerd Day (Using Drugs and Alcohol isn’t Cool); PJ Day (Using Drugs and Alcohol is a Snooze); Harley Davidson Day (Get Your Motor Runnin’ and Head out on the Highway – Born to be Drug Free); Medical Professional Day (If You Use Drugs and Alcohol You need Your Head Examined); and Say Boo 2 Drug Abuse costume day.
The week ended with a presentation for Michell Paterson, Hoover’s Community in Schools representative and guest speaker, Pree Manga and Mandy Frye from the Recovery Resource Council. |
